Find out more about Artist... Yvonne Bouwman Ceramics Born: Queensland Resides: Brisbane, Queensland Artist Information
Yvonne Bouwman is an experienced professional potter who has been highly influenced by the Australian landscape. She has a certificate in Studio Ceramics and Ceramic Sculpture from the Brisbane Technical College. She has also been on a Japanese Cultural Exchange which allowed her to work in a Japanese Potters Workshop and then exhibit at the Fukuoka Museum in 2002.
Yvonne's work has obviously evolved since her first exhibitions in 1977, and she is now especially inspired by the colours and contours of the Outback. Years of experimentation have led to these dishes and vessels which have been treated with many layers of oxides and coloured slips, then fired to 1280oC. The rich textures and vibrant colours are an interpretation of Yvonne's own visual experiences of the Australian Outback and like the land, these pieces also change with the light and a different perspective. Yvonne has shared her wonderful ability through teaching privately and tutoring widely across Queensland, including at the Queensland Potters Association, Queensland Arts Council and Access Arts (a non-profit organisation for people with disabilities). She has even found time formerly to be Director of the Crafts Council of Queensland Inc. Her career has seen works exhibited in Italy, Yugoslavia, New Zealand, Taiwan and Japan and of course extensively throughout Australia. Yvonne has completed commissions for Kenmore Anglican Church, the Queensland Premier's Department, the Hyatt Regency, Coolum and the Park Hyatt, Sydney. She has been a published artist many times and the winner of many ceramic awards. Her uniquely Australian ceramics are to be found in innumerable private collections worldwide and in public collections including Galleria D'Arte Internationale, Grotalgie, Italy; Taipei Fine Art Museum, Taiwan; Arita University of Ceramics,Japan and in the Queensland House Collection, London. Amongst many national public collections to boast an Yvonne Bouwman work are Rockhampton Regional Art Gallery; Nudgee College Collection, Brisbane; Toowoomba City Art Gallery and Townsville Perc Tucker Gallery. |
