David Innocente
Craftsman - Box maker

David Innocente began designing and handcrafting boxes in late 2006 and has quickly gained a reputation as a quality craftsman.

“I have always been drawn to the arts and the freedom that comes from being creative.
The design of my first box was very traditional, but I soon began to experiment with combining wood with sheet metal. The early designs were complex, but a trip to Italy led to simpler, more refined ideas.
Some of my designs start with a basic concept in mind and I improvise as I go, adding subtle elements as construction develops. This can bring surprising results as sometimes the finished box is different from the original idea.
I primarily use Huon Pine as the timber in my work, but I have used Black Heart Sassafras as well. Both are beautiful timbers to work with, and to look at. I also use  Rosewood and Ebony as decoration or as handles on the boxes and both contrast brilliantly with the Huon.
The finish I get on the metal is through powder coating, and the boxes are lined with self adhesive velour. The fittings are polished stainless steel and the boxes are all
individually numbered.”

A visit to Italy in 2007  brought David back to Adelaide with a renewed approach to his designs
favouring greater simplicity through clearer lines. This has seen his work evolve in many
directions  as he explores the possibilities of his chosen mediums  for boxes, keeping them
artistic yet practical. With his wife Tania he established Innocente Boxes and Objects in late 2007 and they have developed it from an idea to a growing concern. He has recently designed and created wooden jewellery,  metal clocks and metal wall/2D work
Innocente Boxes have been exhibited far and wide to much acclaim.
