Artist Information
Dawn Lewis
Watercolours

Dawn Lewis was born in New Zealand , where following school she pursued a career in commercial art. During her adult life she practised watercolours and received tuition as possible between all the commitments of family life.

In Auckland, Dawn met her now husband, Tony Lewis, who encouraged her even further with her painting and especially to exhibit. In 1997 the couple moved to settle on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland and continue their artistic journeys. Dawn’s preferred subjects of old homesteads, flowers and landscapes are abundant in this area and the exposure to a new climate has allowed her to truly hone her skills of capturing light and shadow. Her love of flowers even extends into their own beautiful garden, which is a constant source of inspiration. She displays a light touch, but a strength of purpose in her compositions which invite the viewer to revisit again and again.

Over the past years, Dawn has entered many local art award exhibitions and has been increasingly successful. She has also steadily built up a following of art admirers and has experienced a continuously growing demand for her paintings which can now be found in private collections across New Zealand, Australia and in the UK.

The couple have travelled through the UK and Europe, as well as to the Philippines, which have naturally brought very different influences into her paintings. She shares a studio with her husband, Tony Lewis, and together they regularly lead groups to paint en plein air.
