Elizabeth Duguid was born in Sydney, N.S.W. and graduated with a Degree in Art from the Tasmanian College of Art in 1962, and a Certificate of Education from the University of Tasmania which led into teaching at all stages of her life. She is renowned for her paintings of landscapes and flowers in oils, acrylics and mixed media.
"Colour is the vital key in my work. Through colour I endeavour to capture the lifeforce of my environs with spontaneity and energy using all media. My paintings come from the heart and are not photographic copies." This best describes Elizabeth's approach to her works which encompass interpretations of the landscapes from the pineapple plantations around her home to the myriad colours of the outback; from the jacarandas in flower to the sweep of a sandy bay. Her still life works of very natural bunches of flowers often in a favourite vase or jug, are also inspired by the brightness and joy they envoke. During a highly successful career, Elizabeth has won over 45 prizes in major art awards. She has been involved in helping to design, organise and present Community projects to help foster community awareness, personal pride and individual and group involvement in creative endeavour which has included Expo. 88 and many charity events. In 1995 Elizabeth was one of the artists chosen to spend time painting at Arthur Boyd's historic N.S.W. property "Riversdale", part of the Bundanon Trust. In 1996 she was asked to be a mentor for the Sunshine Coast University. In 1997 she won the prestigious Sydney Royal Easter Show prize (Rural/Landscape). These are just a few highlights in a broad career. Elizabeth has held over 20 solo and more than 33 group exhibitions across the country. Her work is represented in more than 40 important public art collections and in corporate and private collections across Australia, USA, UK, and Europe. "A spontaneous work which gives off the quality of life with its lush paint and brushstrokes" - William Robinson - artist. Winner - Capricorn Coast Art Prize 2008 Winner - Bellingen Art Prize 2007 |
