Herman Pekel
Painter- Oils, Watercolour Resides - Victoria Herman Pekel was born to Dutch parents in Melbourne, Victoria in 1956. In his youth, art teachers including Roger Webber and Ernest Buckmaster introduced him to the spontaneity of working en plein air and following his intuitions, especially working from the light source. At this stage he worked primarily in oils. However, he painted and exhibited spasmodically until 1981, when he commenced a Fine Arts Degree at RMIT and studied under Dale Hickey and Jeff Makin. Various study tours overseas expanded his practice, allowing him to produce award-winning works in oils, watercolour and gouache. Greatly inspired by landscape, be it natural or urban or industrial, Herman paints strong, powerful images of impact reflecting his concerns for the environment. EXHIBITIONS; Herman has exhibited widely across Australia since 1977, both solo and in group showings. He has also exhibited regularly in the USA and by invitation with the National Taiwan Art Institute in a touring exhibition with accompanying book. |
