Artist information
John McVeigh-Brown Landscapes John McVeigh-Brown was born in the Scottish village of Halfway, near Glasgow, in 1938.He studied at the Glasgow School of Art and was tutored by the renowned English watercolourist Sydney Vale, before emigrating to Australia in 1973. The very different light in his new country further inspired him to portray the effects of sunlight, shadow and atmosphere in an Impressionistic tradition. This continues to be his primary concern in his art, which shows a masterly control of colour and tone. John was previously known for his powerful and complex oil paintings, but in the recent past has focused on watercolours which highlight his technical ability and tonal control. John has exhibited regularly in Queensland for over 40 years and while his subject matter still includes British landscapes it also encompasses rural SE Queensland and more. |
