Painter, Print Maker Artist Statement Why Don Quixote? - Kevin Oxley “Windmills of my Mind” Kevin Oxley Artist Statement regarding the Don Quixote Exhibition October 3rd ‘09, “Art on Cairncross” Maleny Don Quixote is the theme for the exhibition because his story by Cervantes is the ideal metaphor for Oxley’s personal journey. Quixote was moved by ‘wrongs’ he witnessed in his world. This warrior in Quixote is the part of all humanity that Oxley draws on to fight his own battles facing his mortality. Without being morbid, Oxley fights on through his art. Art is his defensive weapon and shield by which he comes to terms with the windmills of his mind. Oxley shows there is a little Quixote in all of us in this metaphor of survival.
