John McVeigh-Brown was born in the Scottish village of Halfway, near Glasgow, in 1938.
He studied at the Glasgow School of Art and was also tutored by the renowned English watercolourist Sydney Vale before emigrating to Australia in 1973 In true impressionistic tradition John's primary concern is to portray the effects of sunlight, shadow and atmosphere. Consequently his works display a masterly control of colour and tone. Such tonal control promotes effortless and spontaneous techniques which believe the quality and complexity of his deft watercolours. The strong demand for his work and his enviable success in competitions over a 34 year period underline the enduring appeal of the artwork of John McVeigh-Brown.
