KEVIN OXLEY OAM: For service to visual and performing arts.
Queen's birthday list June 2014.
"WHAT do you do for a living?" a 28-year-old Kevin Oxley was asked.
"I am a printer, but I am going to be an artist," he replied.
It was enough to push him to do something about his dream.
"I thought 'here I am saying it again, either I become an artist or forget about it',"
the Flaxton artist said. It has led him along a path which today sees him awarded an OAM for his services to visual and performing arts.
"There are many people deserving such an award, but I'm happy to receive some recognition," he said.
Mr Oxley has encouraged and guided many artists since establishing The Hawkesbury Community Arts Workshop at Hawkesbury Agricultural College in 1978.
In his time on the Coast, he has been director of Art and Cultural Development at the Sunshine Coast Advancement Network; a drawing lecturer at Sunshine Coast University; president of Montville Village Association and has judged many art awards.
