Rick Everingham was born in Sydney in 1945. His artistic ability was noticed form an early age and he worked in a Commercial Art Studio on leaving school. Conscription in 1966 lead into signing up for a short service commission to train as a pilot, however, this career was curbed by a serious helicopter crash in 1967. This saw Rick return to the world of commercial art, but pursuing his own painting he held his first solo exhibition in 1970 in Brisbane. He quickly became known for his urban landscapes and beach subjects and for successful exhibitions across Australia, but most regularly at his own home studio, the site of which changed across Brisbane over the years. In 1977 he undertook a study tour of galleries and museums in Europe and the USA and he and his wife have travelled frequently ever since. There were opportunities to exhibit overseas and the lure of Italy, its history, culture and light, gave rise to delightful paintings and to selling up and moving to Tuscany to live in 1999. Here Rick was immersed in the very life he was portraying in his art to share with others and he was able to expand his artistic skills even further, starting sculpting in bronze and marble. 2010 was a landmark year when the Everinghams moved back to Australia and Rick celebrated 40 years as a professional artist with his 100th solo exhibition. Rick is now a resident of Maleny in Queensland's Sunshine Coast hinterland. |
