Kevin George Oxley 1941 – 2016
Born in Hay NSW 1941, Oxley displayed a natural talent as a child and developed his own “self directed” learning program for art and developing his creativity. After 50 years of producing art of all kinds in all sorts of materials, the validity of his learning method is well recognised. His teaching methods are based on those early learning experiences. Oxley won numerous major art awards, taught and lectured at schools, colleges and universities and been hung in the prestigious Archibald portrait prize competition. He was commissioned to paint knights of the realm, premiers and other notable people. As well as producing 2 and 3 dimensional art he also held administrative positions as director of Tweed Regional Art Gallery, Co-ordinator of the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize, Director of “Wyreena” Community Arts Centre, Croydon, Victoria, Founder, Director of Hawkesbury Community Arts Workshop (on campus) University of Western Sydney, Richmond NSW. Oxley was a prolific artist and his works are to be found in Parliament House, Sydney, The Lodge, Canberra, the Sydney Opera House, Hawkesbury Shire Council, NSW, plus many private and corporate collections throughout Australia and overseas. Oxley passed away peacefully in his home on September 04, 2016 after a ten-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his children; Rachael, Tim and Emma. He will be remembered fondly as a father, friend, artist and mentor. |
